Just getting comfortable

Just getting comfortable.

We all want to be comfortable and at ease so all pilots climb into their seat and proceed to move it forwards a bit then backwards a bit then forwards a little more  until every thing is just perfect and all is to hand (and foot ).

Then comes the  struggle with the seat belt; the short half is generally trapped by the seat runners or simply missing whilst the other half is buried deep down the side and out of reach or also simply missing. A brief panic reveals that we are actually sitting on it but to get it out, the seat has to be moved back.

After retrieving both bits of the seat belt, the hugely experienced amongst us will first return the seat forwards and only then put on and tighten the belt, but the rest of us will strap ourselves in and then try to move the seat forwards……which wont happen because the seat belt has been put on and is holding us back. So, the belt is undone, the seat moved forwards a bit then backwards a bit then forwards a little more until everything is just perfect and to hand (and foot).

But, the short bit has again managed to get itself trapped by the seat runners. A further brief panic with lots of tugging results in a free seat belt short bit and we can finally put the belt on and tighten it. Now,  with the seat in the right position and the seat belt on, are we feeling comfortable and at ease ?

No! We have become increasingly hot and flushed and we are now horribly aware of just how restrictive our shirt, jumper and jacket  have become, wouldn’t it be nice to take off at least the jacket, but, that would mean undoing the seat belt and moving the seat backwards……..the saga continues.
